Border veterinary controls are carried out as a rule when consignments first arrive in the EU area. The range of controls required is determined by EU Decision 275/2007. Please note that not all animal and product categories can be imported into Switzerland via any border crossing. The customs authorities alone determine the competence of the various customs posts. If the imported animals or animal products fall under species conservation law, the species conservation inspection, which is still required, is carried out after the consignment has crossed the border.
