Importing via the EU

Importing of consignments from third countries into Switzerland via the EU by land, sea or air

Border veterinary controls are carried out as a rule when consignments first arrive in the EU area. The range of controls required is determined by EU Decision 275/2007. Please note that not all animal and product categories can be imported into Switzerland via any border crossing. The customs authorities alone determine the competence of the various customs posts. If you have any questions, please contact the competent departments of the federal customs administration, see "Customs". If the imported animals or animal products fall under species conservation law, the species conservation inspection, which is still required, is carried out after the consignment has crossed the border.
Different procedures are to be followed depending on whether goods or live animals are involved
