Professional imports from third countries must be dealt with the TRACES. This european veterinary information system provides informations for the veterinarian authorities regarding the traffic across borders of live animals, foodstuffs and animal by-products. Switzerland is fully integrated into the system.

Conservation of species
A permit is required by laws on conservation of species to import or transit all animal species listed in Annexes I-III of the Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) and all non-domesticated species of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians.
