Bees and bumble-bees from the EU

Veterinary rules on importing bees and bumble-bees from the EU to Switzerland.

They apply with reservation as to import bans, temporary sanitary restrictions and special conditions in force at the time of import.

Supplementary specific requirements on importing bees and bumble-bees from the EU:


For the import of bees and bumblebees the importer has to contact the Cantonal veterinary office responsible at least one week before the scheduled import in order to get more details on the “restricted zones” valid for dispatches of bees within Switzerland. The bees and bumblebees must be acompanied by the certificate mentioned below.

The animals are not subject to official veterinarian monitoring after arrival, they must nevertheless be closely inspected and any signs of disease have to be notified to the competent bee inspector.

Models of the prescribed import certificates / documents

The official TRACES certificate model 92/65 EII bees/queen bees and bumble bees is required. The official veterinarian of the consigning country has besides to announce the transfer by means of the TRACES system.
